Business Objects Peer Review
Definitions:
Customer: The person who requested the program to be developed and will actively use the solution.
Developer: The person responsible for the development of the solution.
Peers: Power users or developers who could have been candidates for implementing the solution. (Technically savy about the problem and solution)
Facilitator: An management named individual who is responsible for the rapid progression of the peer review.
Peer Review for transfers
- Developer will provide the names of at least two named peers to sign off at the meeting (at least 3 business days in advance).
- At least 3 business days in advance, the facilitator will announce the date/time of the meeting and developer doing the work.
- At least 3 business days in advance, the developer’s work can be reviewed by a distributing an electronic copy by peers and community.
- All reviewers must have received the document in advance and come prepared for the review.
- The developer may bring sample output or conduct the review electronically at the meeting.
- The meeting will be a simple walk through, As each item or problem is identified the recorder/facilitator will document it. Solutions and problem solving techniques will not be relevant/discussed to keep the meeting brief. The developer can troubleshoot or research alternative solutions after the meeting.
- Peers may stop the walk through to ask the developer questions.
- At the close of the walk through, the recorder will read and confirm all issues raised. A vote will be casted by the peers.
- Option 1 – the document/program is acceptable as is
- Option 2 – specific changes need to be made and the document can be transferred without another review
- Option 3 – the document needs changes and another review date set
- The facilitator/recorder will not vote unless it is to break a tie. If there is a separate facilitator and recorder, the recorder will not vote at any time.
- Customers are encouraged to attend (even if the technical discussions are too complex). They should be there to clarify the real problem to be solved. The customer is not a peer and should not vote.
Intentions/explanation:
The review is non-confrontational. The purpose of the review is to ensure technical correctness and the solution adheres to documented standards and best practices. A well prepared review could be finished in under 15 minutes.
