Wireless Ethernet at WSU

Washington State University provides wireless LAN access to the campus using the 802.11g standard. This does not include the network provided by First Step Research in the campus apartment areas. Information Technology Services Communication & Network Services Group is responsible for the management and deployment of wireless local area networks (LANs) that use the IEEE 802.11 standards. Any compliant wireless network card can be used. Please refer to the Wireless Internet Policy for details.

SSID, Network Name
Please follow your manufacturer's instructions and manually set the Network Name to "wsunexus" (must be lowercase).

WEP
WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) security is not used at WSU. Instead WSU uses Virtual Private Networking technology to provide a secure, encrypted connection between your wireless device and a Wireless Access Point. Please follow your manufacturer's instructions and manually disable WEP.

VPN Software
All customers who desire to use the wireless network are required to install VPN client software on their wireless device in order to gain access to the WSU network and the Internet. This software will provide secure access to the WSU network using data encryption. For instructions on how to install the VPN client software click here.

Network ID
Wireless LAN access is available to current WSU students and current WSU employees through the use of a Network ID and password. Authentication services are used to verify current employment or enrollment. To obtain a Network ID and password click here.

WSU Sponsored visitors may obtain a Friend of WSU Account for use with the Wireless LAN. Learn more ( using this URL https://webapps.wsu.edu/ais/friendaccounts/ for the “Learn More”)
