Scanning for viruses with Symantec Antivirus (Windows)

Symantec Antivirus, once properly installed, will automatically scan computer files for viruses as they are opened. However, it is advised that users scan their computer manually at least every two weeks.

Scanning Your Computer

First, launch the Symantec Antivirus program. This can be accomplished by either double clicking the icon in the lower right hand system tray, or by clicking on Start->Programs->Symantec Corporate->Symantec Antivirus.

To perform a scan, click on "Scan Computer" under the Scan option on the left hand side. Check the box next to any "Local Disk" options you have on the right hand side of the screen then click "Scan".

While the computer is scanning, a progress box will be visible. This will display the current files that have been found to be infected.

If a virus is found, a notification should be displayed. The alert will also indicate the action taken.
