FTP Client
We recommend BlueZone Secure FTP client by http://www.bluezonesoftware.com/ This software is freely available and it has a company standing behind it. It has proven its ability to connect to the mainframe using the secure SSL FTP protocol. BlueZone Secure FTP Client also supports TLS and SSH, and delivers HTTPS tunneling through firewalls and proxy servers for extranet access.
At this time the freeware secure FTP client FileZilla, does not work when connecting to the WSU mainframe. If you do not need to FTP to or from the mainframe then this version may work for you.
FTP Server
There are many FTP servers that work well. We have had success with the freeware FTP server by FileZilla http://filezilla-project.org/ . FTP servers must support the SSL FTP protocol at a minimum of 128 bit encryption.
TN3270 Client
There are many TN3270 clients that will work when connecting to Administrative Information Systems (AIS). The only requirement is that the client must establish a secure connection.
There is a freeware secure TN3270 client called wc3270 available. This client has a limited feature set but it is functional. Download a copy of wc3270 customized for the WSU environment.

Upload and Download AIS Files
Many AIS applications have a file upload and download capability. These files can now be uploaded or downloaded from any TN3270 client through a feature called BUD.

Secure Tunnel
The secure tunnel software provides a method for older, insecure TN3270 clients to communicate with the mainframe securely. Only install this software if the TN3270 client is unable to establish a secure connection on its own. An installation readme file is available. Download a copy of the secure tunnel software.
